The stem of a verb + たい expresses the idea of 'wanting to do something'.
When the たい form of a verb ends the sentence, it would typically be followed by です in politer speech. The です can be omitted in informal interactions.
Once たい has been added to the verb stem, the combination functions as an い adjective, and can be used to make all the standard forms of an い adjective.
