The て form of a verb plus もいい (です) is used to indicate that it's OK to do something.
For example:
なか
てもいい
です
You can look inside.
This form can be thought of as the combination of the ても form (the て form with も, which means 'even if I do ~') and いい (good, OK). So it literally means 'even if I do ~, it's OK' - in other words, it's OK to do ~.
With か, this is a common way of politely asking permission to do something:
ひとり
一人
ってもいい
です
Can I go on my own?
Notes:
  • In colloquial speech, the も may be omitted (ていい)
  • てもよい is a direct alternative, but somewhat less common
  • In polite speech, the alternative てもよろしい is often used. In written form, よろしい may be written as
    よろ
    しい
