でしょう is used when the speaker thinks something is likely or probable, but is not 100% sure.

It can also be used to check that the listener agrees with something the speaker thinks is true, similar to ですね. When used in this manner intonation slightly rises at the end of the sentence.

でしょう is the same politeness level as a ます verb form. The plain equivalent is だろう.
