The conditional form of a verb means 'if (verb)'.
The conditional is formed by replacing the う sound of the dictionary form with the equivalent え and then adding ば. So for example:
- よむ read ➜ よめば if I read
- たべる eat ➜ たべれば if I eat
This 'ば form' can actually be used with adjectives and nouns. In the case of い adjectives, the い is replaced with ければ:
- よい good ➜ よければ if it's good
- ない not ➜ なければ if it's not
For nouns and な adjectives, just add であれば (which comes from である, a form of 'is'):
- にちようび日曜日Sunday ➜にちようび日曜日であれば if it's Sunday
- しず静か quiet ➜しず静かであれば if it's quiet
