noun

+
き(です/だ)
means
(I, You, etc.) like~
The topic of the sentence can be added at the beginning, followed by は, to show who likes something.
わたしマンガすきです
I like manga.
かのじょ
彼女
オレンジ
です
She likes oranges.
わたし
おんがく
音楽

I am fond of music.
In this structure:
  • は shows the topic (who we are talking about).
  • が marks the thing that is liked.
However, in Japanese, the topic is often left out if it is already clear from the context. For example, in a normal conversation, it is usually understood when you are talking about yourself.
ゲームすきです
I like video games.
ポップス
です
I like pop music.
き is a な-adjective, not a verb.
Even though it translates as “like”, it does not behave like a verb such as
べます (eat) or
きます (go). Because
き is not a verb, we do not use を. We use が because the thing you like is treated as the subject of the adjective.
  • Correct
    ピザ
    きです。
  • Incorrect
    ピザ
    きです。
Using
き な to describe a noun
So far, we have used 好きです at the end of a sentence. However, because 好き is a な-adjective, it can also be placed before a noun to describe it.
  • きな
    もの
    はラーメンです。My favourite food is ramen.
  • きな
    スポーツはテニスです。My favourite sport is tennis.div>
