In Chinese and some older Japanese fonts, the upper vertical stroke is divided into two, so the kanji consists of (lid) on top of (middle) and then 𧘇 (clothes), with a total of 10 strokes. In most modern Japanese fonts, the upper vertical stroke running through (one) and (mouth) is combined, for a total of 9 strokes.
