The ひなまつり is the 'Doll festival', also known as 'Girl's day'. Typically held on the 3rd March, the festival is a day to celebrate girls, wishing for their good health and happiness. At this time of year many families with daughters put up 'hina' doll displays, and displays can also be seen in some public places. The displays range from small and simple varieties with only a few dolls, to elaborate displays with numerous dolls spread out on a tiered stand.
