The ending む is a form of classical Japanese used to express conjecture, a set of forms known collectively as

(auxiliaries for guessing). It is used in classical Japanese to express doubt or uncertainty over an outcome (like the modern だろう), or a desire to induce the listener to go along with something (like the modern volitional).
