Grammar detail: 〜ているところ
My current mastery of this grammar point:
verb ている
+
ところ (だ)
means
doing ~ (just) now doing; in the act of doing; doing ~ at the present moment
When this expression ends a sentence だ or です will sometimes be placed after ところ. However, in everyday casual conversation, だ or です is often omitted.
だった or でした placed at the end of the expression form the past.
Another similar common expression is
いま
今
のところ, which means 'at the moment', or 'right now'.See also:
Kanji used in this grammar
ジョウ ショウ うえ above うわ- above あげる to raise あがる to rise かみ first half, upper part のぼる to climb のぼせる to bring up, to raise のぼす to bring up
