助動詞
refer to inflecting suffixes that change the meaning of the primary verb. Although the term is typically translated as 'auxiliary' verb, this is somewhat different to the meaning of auxiliary verb in English grammar, where it refers to a suffix that is a verb in its own right. In Japanese, a verb ending that has no independent meaning can be classified as a 助動詞.For example, see:
