indicates when a situation or action happens.
The clause can end with a verb in plain form:
まど

めないで

さい

When you open the window, please don't draw the curtains.
The clause can use the past tense to indicate an event that already occurred:
かれ
めた

ひるま
昼間
だった
When he awoke it was day.
The clause can be a noun indicating a state, in which case の is placed before :
わたし
かれ
あか
ちゃん
とき
から
っている

I have known him since he was a baby.
