Kanshudo includes a built-in IME (the standard computer term for a way to enter Japanese) which lets you type hiragana simply by typing out the letters. The IME supports entry of any hiragana and katakana character, and is on by default in 'answer type mode' for flashcards, and the Answer Type game.
| ん | type 'n' twice |
| を | type 'w o' |
| づ | type 'd u' |
| ず | type 'z u' |
| じゃ | type 'j a' |
| てぃ | type 't h i' |
| ゃ | type 'x y a' |
| ぃ | type 'x i' |
| ー | (katakana dash) type a hyphen '-' |
To get katakana versions, typically you can type the combinations above, and then press space until you see the katakana version.
You can also type combinations that include a character and then delete unnecessary characters. For example, to type 'ゃ', type しゃ (s h a) and then delete the し. To type the katakana dash ー, start typing カード (k a - d o), then delete any extra. To type 々 (the kanji repetition symbol), type 人々 (h i t o b i t o) then delete the 人.
For help using the IME, see the 'How to type Japanese' help, which is accessible by clicking the question mark under the typing area on the flashcards page (i.e. when you are actually studying flashcards), and in various games (such as Answer Type) when you are playing the game.
