Grammar detail: する
My current mastery of this grammar:
する is the most common verb in Japanese. It has many meanings, of which the most common is 'to do'.
にする
~ + にする literally means 'to do ~' in the sense of choosing A over B, or of choosing to do something.
をする
~ + をする means 'to do ~', and is a general construction that can be used with almost any activity. Some nouns, known as 'の nouns', do not require the を, although typically it would not be wrong to include it. For example,
べんきょう
勉強
(study) can be used either way:がする
~ + がする is less common, and indicates 'a feeling of ~'. It is often used as part of the set phrase 〜のような
き
気
がする meaning 'I have a feeling that ~', but it can be used more generally. For additional meanings, see the main dictionary entry.
